Can't detect ipod
« on: January 09, 2008, 10:47:05 pm »

The last couple of times I have tried to put music on my ipod (3G, 40GB) my computer and MC has not been able to detect it.  It used to work good, and I have not changed anything since it stopped working.  the ipod does not show up on "my computer" or in MC, but it does show up in the list of items I can eject (when connected).  I have deleted and reloaded the firewire drivers (which I am using to connect to computer), but that did not help.    I have also tried to redetect devices in MC but does nothing.  Does anyone know why it would just stop working?  Thanks in advance for your help.

Jason

You could try updating to MC12.0.404, available on the download page.

In iTunes make sure the option for "Enable disk use" is checked under the iPod Summary settings.

Thanks for the ideas guys.

Just updated to latest build and no dice.  And I don't have itunes installed.

If I go to device manager I can see the ipod when I unplug it.  It shows up under "disk drives" as "Apple Computer_Inc. iPod IEEE 1394 SBP2 Device" and under "SBP2 IEEE 1394 Devices" as "SBP2 Compliant IEEE 1394 Device".  This is probably not a MC problem, but I'm wondering if anyone know why it shows in device manager but not in MC or on "my computer".

Thanks again,
Jason

What you're describing is consistent with the iPod not being set to be accessed as a removable drive. Please use iTunes to enable the "Enable disk use" option and update the firmware.

Turns out it was a problem with duplicate drive letters and the "enable disk use" thing.  Thanks for the help.
