I had the same question a few months ago and for me the solution was to use mpl playlist to transfer tags. If you have your custom fields created on both libraries, it is a very powerful tool.

I began to wrote a wiki page for this, but it is still at an early stage :P

Maybe the original topic will be better

Hope that helps !

Alternatively you can do the following:

1. Create a library backup file on your old PC (File > Library > Back Up Library...)

2. You didn't say if you have already copied the media files, but if you have not, do the following:
Copy the media files to an identical folder structure on the new PC. You can use a network connection or an external hard drive. I would recommend using an external USB2 or Firewire hard drive and keeping the files on it as a backup copy (unless you already have a system for backups).

If you store the cover art files in a separate folder copy the cover art folder contents too.

3. After the files are on the new PC open MC and restore the library backup file (File > Library > Restore Library...).

This system would preserve everything you have in your old MC library including the playlists, statistical data and view schemes.

Why can't you connect? Make sure Library Server is running on the old system...

it is. both builds and everything. it even pops up and asks me which one do i want to connect to. and when i do i get a error pop up that say can not load library and will go back to the default library.
so i dont know. i would really like to do this, but i cant.

On the old computer, make sure only 1 media center is running.

On the new computer, try to connect (not with library sync, just with Search for Libraries) to the old computer.

There shouldn't be multiple choices.

Does this work?
