Flac to MP3 conversion for iPod -- hot CPU
« on: February 28, 2008, 04:05:50 pm »

I set off a sync to my iPod with MC. I came back to it 10 minutes later and I notice that my touch pad was red hot and CPU temp was at 79 degrees. Normally it runs at about 55. After investigation I found that MC was running both of the CPU cores at 98/99% with 2 lame processes converting on the fly flac files to mp3 for my iPod. It just happened that there were several flac files in a row and didn't have time to cool down.   Not Good  :-[

I converted the flac to mp3. Strangely though, when MC was just converting, it only ran one lame process and the CPU stayed cool.

You can configure the number of simultaneous conversions.

Normally it's considered a good thing to use a multi-core processor to its potential.

Yes, I see the logic. It was a heads up really for people with laptops which tend to have constant heat issues.

But I forgot to say that it was a laptop!!
