MC12 filling C drive
« on: March 03, 2008, 07:44:03 am »

Yesterday I was playing with a new toy (Sony 8gb MP3 player). In the process of transferring some music files to it Windows started showing a balloon tip saying that the C drive was full. This C partition is 25gb and should have had at least 12gb free. When I checked, MC12 had deposited copies of the music that was being transferred onto the C drive.

As this machine was using a library served from another PC, and the music files, which are stored on a third PC, need to be converted from ape to mp3 I can understand that MC12 would download the files and store them locally while the conversion was being done. However, MC12 doesn't seem to delete the local files after conversion. Files from a previous days syncing were still on the C drive.

I looked for an option to change the temporary directory so that it could be pointed to a bigger partition, but couldn't find one. Is there an option to change this directory or to tell MC12 to delete the files after use?

I wonder if the change announced in the linked thread is implemented in the current MC12 and MJ12 builds:

Not sure if this is your problem or not but worth a look.

go to the top toolbar and check Tools -> Options -> Handheld -> Conversion -> Converted Files Cache

either UnCheck "Enable Caching of Conveted Files", or set the "Limit Cache Size to ___ " to an appropriate amount.

Also If Your Using Norton Protected Files, You May Need To Clear It And Make Room Since Norton Will Protect Deleted And Even Moved Files That May Have Been On The Protected Drive.

Thanks for the suggestions, but it is the original ape files that are being stored. Caching of converted files was not enabled at first; when enabled it cached the converted files where it was supposed to, but kept adding the ape files to the original location on the C drive.

I have found a work around. Instead of using a library served from my master MC12 PC load the library directly into the local machine. MC12 then uses the ape files directly rather than making an intermediate copy.
