I am experiencing a strange problem when playing media files on my computer. I recently experienced a HD crash, so I made a fresh install of XP Pro. Somehow, when playing a media file, my computer 'stutters'... every few minutes or so (or every few seconds, for that matter), the audio and/or video will hold and replay the same quarter of a second briefly (imagine the sound of a brief snare drum, or a stutter compressed into a quarter of a second).
I use MJ 8 for all of my media files, and this occurs regardless of type or size (ranging from 400MB Divx recordings to 2MB mp3 recordings).
This is not the fault of MJ -- it also occurs in WMP, but I was hoping that the community might be able to give me suggestions.
Here are my current system stats:
1ghz Pentium III (laptop)
XP Pro
Phys Mem (total) 392664 K
Phys Mem (available) 150000 K
System Cache 230000 K
Commit Charge (peak): 161460
Commit Charge (limit): 1141084
CPU flux b/t 4-20%
Using 150MB page file (out of 750MB allocated, 1180 Max)
*******
This occurs regardless of which HD the media is on (both laptop HD and firewire 7200RPM HD), regardless of whatever else is running (currently have no applications in background, minimal processes), regardless of the type of media I am playing (I could kind of understand it on a really complicated Divx recording, HQ of a concert, but... an mp3?)
Any suggestions you can give me would be much appreciated.
