Below are my original post and replies which mirror the problem in this thread. Per Jim's request I'm copying here and adding the following:
Firewall is incorporated into 2 Wire router running Verizon DSL. Dell PII at 350, video card stb nvidia zx 8mb, Norton anti virus. Can't copy info from MJ as it is not installed on that machine, even an older version.

I've read every post on these boards regarding install problems. I've tried cleaning out temp files, downloading over and over, etc. Can't get MJ to install.
I use this on 2 other machines with no problems. This is a win98SE machine. When I try to install, after setup meter gets across the screen, I get a GPF. Here's the details:

2 ideas that might help:
-Update the video driver
-Temporarily change the desktop resolution

Thanks, Matt...but neither worked. Still in the dark.

Hi Dave;
Sometimes when I have similar problems, I find that re-installing over the bad install seldom works.
Suggest the following…
1: Using the “Windows control Panel, Add or Remove Programs” un-install MJ. This will often clean out the old files that may be causing the problem.
2: Do a new install of the latest version of MJ (8.0.336).
3: Also you might try doing the new install in a different folder (just in case there are any rouge MJ files lurking about looking for MJ in the old folder.
HAVE FUN?

Thanks for the tip, but MJ never installed on this machine. I have MusicMatch installed...wonder if that would affext it?

Did you also delete the Temporary Internet files? IE/Tools/Internet Options/Temp Internet/ delete.
I talked with someone else yesterday when I first saw your post. He thought it was dying when rar tried to unzip the files. This suggests a temp file problem or an incompatibility with our unzip. Dig around in explorer to see if you can find out where the files are going.
Disk space?
Dave 08-05-2002 07:15:45 P.M.
I've dumped all the IE temp files and have over 30 gig disk space. I see another post here with same problem I'm having. I've tried everything suggested, including trying to install over my home network. No luck.
This is an old Pentium 2 machine which I planned to be my drone music server. I'd hate to have to resort to MS media player...

Dave,
Can you post on the other thread and see if you can find anything in common? Speed of machine, maybe, but firewall, virus checker, video card, etc.
You can copy your system info from MJ help and paste it there.
I'll close this thread when you post.
Thanks,
Jim
