FEATURE REQUEST: display tags in window title
« on: March 10, 2008, 11:54:38 am »

I want to display tags (name, artist, etc.) in the MC window title bar, so that when the window is minimized to the taskbar I can still see what's playing.  Is this possible, and if so how?  I tried a search here but couldn't find the answer. Can this be added to a future revision of MC?

Thanks in advance!

If MC is in the system tray you can hover your mouse over the icon
and get some track info

the answer is no!

You could, as Mr. ChriZ has pointed out, minimise to tray instead, then, when you mouse over the MC tray icon, you'll get a tooltip showing the currently playing track. There is a character limit in there though, so sometimes you don't get all the info.

You could also use the playingnow plugin to display the info in an unobtrusive but highly functional bar across the top of your screen:

Thanks everybody for the suggestions.  Minimizing to the system tray is an easy workaround, I'll try the other suggestions this evening.

I still wish MC could display tags in the title bar though.  Maybe I should re-post as FEATURE REQUEST.   ;D

If you have a VFD display you can use a plugin for LCDSmartie to display tag info there. I've had mixed results with it though...

I always thought that the file info bar at bottom would be helpful if customized so the user could add tag info there besides the stock info.

In the past when working on playlists, once you are working in it, you no longer see the total duration; just the current file stats. That bottom bar (or the playlist window at top) should be used to always display total duration. I use playlists mainly for mixes which get burned to CD so I could use the total duration displayed consistently.

If we could add tag fields in the bottom bar, would it be useful to have genre show, for example, all currently selected? So if you highlight all 25 files in a playlist you see:

Genre: (2) Blues, (7) Rhythm & Blues), (9) Funk   etc.
