Pane drag & drop behavior flaw
« on: March 23, 2008, 11:05:33 am »

I don't know if this has been discussed before. but I do believe the pane drag & drop behavior could be improved/corrected.
Currently, items are not selected when the drag is initiated and, you can fairly easily end up dragging and dropping not what you intended.
And most of the time without noticing it since the image "proxy" (visual of the dragged content) is indeed representing the item being dragged instead of the data you are effectively d&dropping.(which is actually what was currently selected when the drag was initiated).

Example:
in the default pane view: Genre/Album Artist/Album
You select one genre then select one Artist and then directly drag and drop one of the Albums of that artist in a playlist/device/whatever.
While dragging you should notice that the shortcut item: "All(number of albums)" is actually still highlighted.
Just when dropping you realize you just copied the 52 Albums of that Artist instead of just the one you dragged and dropped.
If I wanted to copy all theses albums I would have drag&dropped the "All(52)" shortcut.

I don't remember ever having to click(select)click(drag)to properly initiate a drag & drop operation in any ui.
I'm pretty sure that's a simple fix for MC12 dev team. and I'm surprised nobody complained before.

Best regards,

Thibaud

PS: you're right I was exaggerating I don't know any artist with 52 Albums.

Good find.

In build 463 and later:
Fixed: Starting a drag of a non-selected item from the panes would not work correctly.
