FEATURE REQUEST: Convert & Stack with Original
« on: April 15, 2008, 01:13:18 pm »

As the subject says... Such an option would be most useful when manually converting my lossless wma files.

you should be able to do this by creating a fake handheld.  Setup the cache stack to save the files wherever you want them and to stack them with the originals.

I created a virtual handheld and set the option to stack with originals as you suggested. I then clicked build cache for selected handheld, but MC seems to want to convert my entire library. I have only one album selected in the sync list (I assume MC uses the sync list when build cache is selected?). I'm using the latest version of MC (build 476).

No.  Build cache will convert the entire library.  If you have individual files you want converted simply sync them to the handheld.  They'll be converted, saved in a stack and transfered to the handheld.  (Which you can then delete if you do not need it.)

You can do it this way... but it wouldn't it be infinitely easier for the end user to be able to do this from the Convert Format tool?

Not if he has to wait a month for me to get a chance to wire it into that.

haha

Well I'm happy to wait...
I don't use handhelds, so the current implementation isn't ALL that useful for me, but at least it gives you guys a chance to iron out all the issues and get the interface right :)

I'm looking forward to stacks getting integrated into conversion and image editing...

Guys,

I second that request for an option to stack files upon converting.
Additionnally and If I may, I would also suggest that the option to stack with existing files could also apply when re-ripping an existing album, isn't re-ripping a kind of upward conversion ?
As I'm trying to explain here http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=46087.0 ,Stacks also seems to be a very convenient way to deal with the transfer of library fields among files.

THanks and have a great day,

Christian

Yes, I'd also love that feature.
Would be nightmare to write the code, I'd imagine :)
