Can't switch to MP3 Encoder: Invalid package file online?
« on: May 22, 2008, 05:25:23 am »

After a new Installation of MC, i can't switch to MP3 Encoder in Options-Encoding-CD Ripping. After chossing MP3 Encoder i get the Information Box:
Invalid package file. Cannot continue.
File: http://www.musicex.com/mediacenter/mc_data/plugins/plugins/lamemp3encoder.mjp
OK

I installed the Encoder manually and got the Box: Plug-In installed successfully.
After switching again to MP3 Encoder in Options, i get the same Error.
The Lame.Exe is in the JRiver\Plugins Directory

The other Encoders work ok, it's only the MP3 Encoder.

Thanks for your attention

That path is invalid (or you copied it wrong).
What version are you using?

The link is OK.
Try clearing your internet cache.
If you are using a proxy server to get to the internet, that may be a problem as well.
The mjp file is simply a text file that tells MC where to download the file from and how to install it. This is it in it's entirety:

[Package]
Name=LAME Encoder
Action=UNZIPDIR
Version=3.97.3
URL=http://www.musicex.com/mediacenter/mc_data/plugins/lamemp3encoder.zip

[Action]
File1=*.*
File1Action1=COPY_PLUGINDIR

I've cleared the Buffer and yes, I'm using a Proxy. But all the other Internetthings (YADB, Coverdownload) are working well.
I've also downloaded the ZIP File manually, changed the mjp File to the local Harddiskadress. After starting the mjp-File I get the Info-Box "Plug-In installed successfully". But when i switch in Option to the MP3 Encoder it tries again to download the encoder (unsuccessfully) from internet. The Lame.EXE is in the directory MC12/Plugins/

Any ideas??

The Lame.EXE is in the directory MC12/Plugins/

Unzip the zip package and copy both files to the Plugins folder. The gogo.exe file is needed too.

MC does not try to download the encoders if it finds the lame.exe and gogo.exe files in the plugins directory. For instance, it is always possible to copy these files manually if the PC is not connected to the internet.

Alex, thanks that worked. The gogo.exe was not in the Dir. Now the encoder is installed (manually)

But there's still the problem with downloading the plugins. The internet connections works. Only the Pug-In downloader has problems.

We can only come up with a couple of possibilities.

1) There is something wrong with your proxy server passing the mime type of the .mjp to you.
2) You've lost the file association for mjp (though that seems pretty unlikely). You can go to tools->options->file_associations and just click on OK then try again.

From your description it seems like there is more that one factor contributing to your problem since it looks like the mjp is run and the file is downloaded but not copied into place. Perhaps a virus checker is preventing the moving of files into the JRiver directory?
