Coverart for non-media (documents, etc) files?
« on: January 07, 2008, 09:07:00 am »

Is it possible to assign coverart for files that are non-video, non-music, non-images?  For instance, does anyone have pdf (or other format) books that they show the book cover for?  In my case the files are ROMs (games) for a video game emulator that I'd like to have show the game box cover instead of a generic icon.

I found a post that described the (roundabout) way to add coverart to data files.  According to the below linked post, anytime you rebuild the library the cover will be lost and needs to be re-added.  Since it seems to be possible to add cover art to data files, why can't this be a straightforward option as it is for the three main media types?  Anyone else interested in this?

Here is the link with the solution (summary below):

I tried this with a pdf file and it seems to have worked.
The way to do it is to change the media type tag of the file(s) from "data" to either "image", "video", or "audio".  This allows you to right click on the file and click "coverart" -> "add from file".
Once the coverart is selected you change the media type back to "data".
Again, if the library is rebuilt you lose all this work.
