c: drive accounting -- JRiver's library?
« on: June 01, 2008, 04:21:46 am »

Hello,

I was checking out my system drive to see what accounts for the 14.3GB used space.

7GB is .net (MSDEV stuff) but it It turns out that:

C:\Documents and Settings\[my user]\Application Data\J River\Media Center 12\Library

contains 0.9 GB of data.

Is this the main data base for MC?

Just wondering...

The actual database size should be not be anywhere near 1 GB unless the library is exceptionally huge. Mine is about 23 MB for about 60000 tagged files.

The default folder for the library files is "C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Application Data\J River\Media Center 12\library\" and it should contain only the database (which consists mostly of .jmd files). On my PCs that folder is empty because I use other locations for my libraries.

Check the contents of the other subfolders under "Media Center 12". For instance:

C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Application Data\J River\Media Center 12\Thumbnails\
C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Application Data\J River\Media Center 12\Library Backups\

Sounds like the handheld cache to me  :)
Having said that though, my video thumbnails take up nearly 200mb (20,000 of them!) so this sort of total could easily be achieved with hi-res coverart and large numbers of videos.

Food for thought anyhow.

Cheers

Oops,

It is the main folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\[my user]\Application Data\J River\Media Center 12

-  which contains .9 GB

The .\Library folder contains approx. 0.22 GB
The .\Thumbnails folder contains approx. 0.4 GB
The .\Library Backups contains approx. 0.25 GB
The .\Library\Cache folder contains < 1 MB

I have deleted most of the backups (except for the most recent ones) and I'm down to 0.65 GB for the entire MC folder..

This is quite large. How many files do you have? Do you use tags that contain long texts like lyrics, reviews etc?
