Going Rio ?(stupid tilte,right?)
« on: July 31, 2002, 01:54:14 am »

Hay Rio 500 support team (or is it only you Steve)?
Hope you are chilled.
I am still having a hard time with MJB and my rio. please check to see how MJB reacts to the following secnerio:
-Format your external ram
-choose some file from the "recenlty imported"
- click the |PLS| to open cd, dvd and henhald again.
------>    My mjb crashed.

BTW why must I have the rio connected and up when I choose to send files to it? What if it takes me more then two min to compile a list, and by this time the rio goes to sleep?
I think MJB should look for the rio only when the actual upload begains.

Regarding Lyrics and art, I am asking if MJB strips this info of the mp3 b4 sending it to the rio in order to reduce its space.

Concerning the force conversion: I choose some diffrent songs to U/l to my rio. MJB still converts the mp3 of them back and forth, may MJB recognize that they are of the propper fomat and u/l them as is?

What happens if the conversion time exceds 2 min? does the rio goes to sleep, and MJB tries to upload to it?
Does the Rio interface support feedback whenever a song has been succsesfully uploaded? if so can you show it on the prograss bar?

Hello nivw,

We are still sweltering here, but maybe a break tonight. Hopefully you are keeping cool as well.

The Rio must be connected when you choose to send files to it because as you are creating your upload queue, MJ is talking to your Rio to get information about the available size so that we can keep you informed of this as you play with what files you want to send and at what bitrate.

In regards to the external format / crash, the test that I ran in this thread...http://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/interact/NeoBoard.pl?Action=ShowPost&Board=inter&Post=12356&BoardIdle=7&SortingBy=0&BoardOrder=Descend&Page=0&UserSession=

..still works correctly. If you let me know what Operating System you have (if it is different from Windows 2000) I can try rerunning the test to see if I can duplicate the problem. If I can't duplicate it, could you try following the advice about removing the drivers from the other thread and let me know if that helps?

Regarding Lyrics etc, MJ will not strip the Lyrics and Art from your files unless you do an on the fly conversion. If you choose to convert the files this information will not be included and you will save more space.

During the force conversion, if a file is the same bitrate and type and you do not have Normalization checked, it should not get converted. For example if I have 5 mp3 files 4 of which are at 128kbps and 1 is at 192 kbps, if I have Normalization turned off and Force File Conversion checked and mp3 128 kbps checked, 4 files should be skipped and my one 192 kbps file should be converted.  If you find this to not be the case, please let me know.

If the conversion time exceeds 2 minutes, the Plug-in should prompt you to turn your Rio on, before attempting the transfer.

Feel free to email me if you have additional followup questions or if you want me to retest the Format issue on a different OS.

Did I mentin that it is hot?

Steve, I didn't install any rio drivers but MJB plugin, I swear!
And I am using windows 2000 just like you.
Concerning the convert issue, I must admit I don't like it :-(
Convrtion means time and sound quality. The nature of using the rio is quick loading some new tunes, and of I go to some roller-blading.
It make no sense to convert a 192K VBR to 128k CBR. And when I que in 15 diffrent songs, from diffrent sources, ripped at diffrent methods, I want MJB to convert JUST other formats to mp3, and other varius mp3 as is. Just get it in to the player.
It may be a nice idea to adopt the dBPowerAMP approch to keeping the rio in usb communication the whole time, so I can leave it converting and uploading while I go elsewhare, coming back only to take the fresh tuned rio.

Niv,

Your critique of the conversion is understandable.  We can look to implement an improvement for Version 9 of MJ, but for now, you will have to transfer in two steps. First, the files you do not want to convert (with conversion off) and then the files to convert. Or, you will have to allow them all to convert where applicable. Sorry.

Regarding the Formatting bug.  The other applications you are running (i.e. dpPowerAMP) most likely put some other drivers on that you are unaware of. We have to isolate the differences here to solve this. Lets do this, let me know what firmware you have on your Rio 500, and what size External Memory card you have. Once you let me know this, I will try some tests here with the identical firmware and card to rule those out as variables. If I still have no problems, I will try putting on dbPowerAmp on my test machine and see if I have problems. If this still works, we will have to have you remove everything Rio related from your PC to try to get this going.

Let me know about the card and Firmware and we can keep moving on this.

-My rio 500 fw is 2.16
-The bug occured with a 64MB SM
-I have dpPowerAMP installed

Thanks for supporting, I know that it is easier critising then DOING, and I sorry for that,

I cannot duplicate this on two Windows 2000 with Firmware 2.16 and 64mb card.

What happens when you expand the tree before the format? Does the tree expand OK?  Can you create and delete folders with the right-click?

If yes to all the above, try expanding the tree after the format without sending files to the Rio and try to create and delete folders.

Let me know how this turns out and I can give you more suggestions.

Thanks,

Steve
