I need help with optical audio setup
« on: July 22, 2008, 01:00:26 pm »

I have my regular line out of my sound card hooked into my TV.  I also can use my optical out to connect audio output to my stereo.  However, the volume does not control the optical audio--not even mute will work.  I can change the setting to use internal audio and the volume will control the optical, but there are 2 problems:  the 'regular' audio is completely gone, and when I quit MC it reverts back to system volume.

I would love to see all of these audio terms explained as well (ASIO, etc???)  I have searched in vain for an audio primer similar to the video primers.  Is it out there somewhere?

There is no audio volume control of the optical output.  It is simply a data stream and not an audio stream so to speak.
The audio volume would be controlled by the master volume on your stereo receiver.

Thanks for that info.  Is there a way to keep it enabled, and/or to allow both types of output to be sent at the same time?

Create another zone (Player>Playback Options>Zone Manager). You can try to sync one zone to another for simultaneous playback of one file to each zone or they can be used for independent playback.

I have XP Pro.  Not sure about my version of MC (I'm not where I can check) but I update it every month or so.

The audio volume would be controlled by the master volume on your stereo receiver.

I can only comment on my setup, but with onboard sound from both my Asus mobo's (both different P5xx models) the sound level of both optical out and digital coax out is controlled by the MC volume level.

On XP:

The Wave control in XP mix., controls the vol. on opt. out.

There is a little prog. (that I have) that will sync. it with master vol.

If you need it chime in.

On Vista:

Just keep  MC vol. control (In Vista mix.) the same as master.

Do a search for "Volume Tracker" on Google.

That should give you what you want.
