AutoPlay?
« on: July 29, 2002, 11:46:56 am »

in a previous thread:
JimH,
I know 8.0.336 is on the downloads page... however, I'd rather have 8.0.334 because it doesn't have the "autoplay" feature.

I want to install it at work, because I have the same at home. I can just wait and bring a copy from home... but I thought this might be easier. I guess that is not the case...

Okay Call Me Stupid..But Where Is AutoPlay?

NY40Male - when you send something to Playing Now it automatically plays. There is much debate about the feature. At least that's what I think is being discussed...

8.1 will give you an option.  For now, it's set to play anytime files are added.  You can mute your volume.

For those who miss it, we're sorry, but new users were confused when they sent files to Playing Now and nothing happened.

A beta of 8.1 should be out in a couple of weeks.  It will add native Quicktime 6.0 support.

I also hope you'll understand that we supporting multiple versions is a problem for us.

Yes, he knows all that.  He was just looking for a depository of old MJ builds (like 8.0.334) on the MJ website.  JRiver's policy is to not provide old builds (which is fine by me).

Nope. Previous versions let you decide when to start playing. I can understand it confusing newbies though.

This is the main reason I am sticking with 334 since everything else seems to be working well. Good to hear 8.1 will hit the streets shortly though.

And some really stinky aged brick cheese.  My 4 year-old son says it smells that way because somebody tooted on it.

Yes, it was the add to playing now autoplay feature that I was referring to... and yes... I was looking for a depository of old builds (which I thought was being offered for a bit a few weeks back)... and yes... it's okay with me too that MJ doesn't offer old builds. I just thought that if they were there, it would save me a trip home to the cd burner.

I am glad to hear there will be an option in 8.1, and am also glad that 8.1 will be arriving in the not-so-distant future.

Thanks to everyone who replied,

Wile

JimH, maybe confusion for newbies would be reduced if Playing Now in 8.1 were renamed to "Playing Queue" or "Queued For Play"?  Then maybe they would not expect everything that is added to it to start "Playing Now"; it would only be in the Queue to start when the Play button is clicked.
