Bug: External Compression Options
« on: July 28, 2002, 05:44:16 am »

Hi,

if I choose to use external compression, I have the option to set to "supports long filenames". If I click this, I think Lame doesn't support this but in this case it doesn't matter, the option is not saved or not correctly displayed, if I go into this dialog again (then it says it supports, but I unchecked it before).

Just to let you know.

Mirko

P.S. Fine software! My audio-fun is back ;-)

external compression? What Is That?

Are You Talking About External Encoder?

And If Your Using MJ8 Why Would You Use An External Encoder If Lame Is Already There?

I would like to use external encoding, sorry, because of my personal like-settings (--r3mix) and because of the in-transparence of the options that MJ uses.

Why develop a "external encoder" plugin if this shouldn't be used?

I Am Not Questioning That.

My Question Was Why Would You Use Lame External When Lame Was Already There.

From What Your Saying It Is The Encoder Settings

However If You Use CBR, you Can Scroll The KBPS Down And Select "Custom", Then Go To Advanced And Put In The Settings You Want.

And The Other Advantage Is The Encoding Is Faster.

Mirko,
Thanks for your comments.  Please enter possible bugs in the thread for the release, and include your system info by doing "copy system info" from MJ help.

Nice to hear you're enjoying your music.

@KingSparta

Thanks. I have to evaluate, if I can copy lame 3.93 into the MJ-directory and use this version (it's faster than the older ones).

@JimH

Should I copy _this_ report also or only the futures ones (if there are *g*)?

About Copying And All That I Am Not Sure, Someone Said You Could Before But I Never Tried It.

If You Try It BackUp The Lame Your Copying Over.

Mirko,

Yes...just copy any Lame.exe version to the MJ Plugins directory and encode using "Custom" quality w/command-line options set under the Advanced button...it's that simple!

I would stick with Mj's installed Lame version(392) the 393 alpha versions of Lame have not really been recommended on the Hydrogen audio forum. 392 is still the recommended version of Lame. If you want to use the r3mix command line just choose the custom option and press advanced and plug in any command line you want including -r3mix. If you decide to go 393 as ZRocker has mentioned it's just as easy as replacing or overwriting the existing Lame.exe the command line option box will contine to work the same.
