failed to connect to a server
« on: July 25, 2002, 11:55:35 am »

Dear friends. I’m trying update my MJB 8.0 using the “check for updates” option in the Help Menu. And a error message is always showed : 1 – Failed to connect to a server, and 2 – Failed to download update.
Can you help me about this ?
Best regards from a brazilian friend.
Ps. I’m running windows XP home, Portuguese / Pentium 500 / 256 ram

This is almost certain to be a firewall or proxy problem on your network.

I've been having the same problem since yesterday, checks for update, tells me there is an orbis update available and when I try to download "unable to connect to server" error msg.  I haven't changed any of my firewall settings in months, and this problem just started yesterday.

Another thing, my laptop has an earlier build of build 8 then the current one, when I ran update it didn't offer me the newer build.

Hi Brian,

The 8 updates are not notified that way, so that's not a problem.
As long as your laptop is current with the latest "safe" build, you won't see notifications of anything newer unless you read here.

I'd appreciate details on what firewall you use, who your ISP is, and all that kind of stuff (send it to gateley @ jriver.com instead of posting it here).

Trinka - the same thing (to the same e-mail address). I'll try to figure out what's going on.

Thanks,

j
