Hello,

Since I started with MC, I was impressed by the way it handles music files through the library server. I asked several times if it would be possible to do the same with extracted DVD files. (.vob files)
The answer was that it wasn't possible or would be possible.

The only reason I would switch to MC13 would be this feature. MC12 has everything I need for my music files/library. But it would be time I could handle all my DVD's the same way.

So 'my question is again: is there any change in making this work in MC13?

All the best,

As long as the Library Server feature only creates streams that can be playd through http access -- i.e. each filename in the shared library is a streamable internet address that may not be possible. Any streamed media file needs to be accessible through a single valid http-style address and that is not possible with DVDs that consist of several files and a coded structure that can be interpreted only by having direct access to the file structure. The same is true with any formats that use auxliary files like videos with external subtitle files.

In the past I have suggested a different, optional Library Server mode that would be usable only on a local LAN. It would enhance the shared library option so that it would be easier to configure. (The shared library option is already available. It works through OS level file sharing instead of using http and can effectively do what you requested.)

Currently the user needs to first create a library that consists of files in a shared location (or locations) and physically place also the library files in some shrared location. The new optional Library Server mode would do these tasks in the background more or less automatically. If creating the OS level shares would not be possible fully automatically the feature could have a wizard which would help the user. The system would also automatically translate the cover art addresses so that they could be accessed through LAN shares.

Hello Alex,

Maybe I do not follow: Are you saying I could make it work right now? Or with some efforts JRiver could make it work in the future by changing something in the Library Server? As you probably know I have several HD's (shared) with extracted movies. I have them organized in MC with actors, directors, year and genre and ofcourse the original movieposter as folder.jpg. That way at least I know what I got.

Regards,

It works right now, but not through Library Server.

You would simply need to access the same library database files from all MC instances, have the media folders shared on the OS level and configure the library so that it accesses the media files through the shared locations.

You could search the forum boards for "shared library" or similar. Also the wiki pages have some info.
