Crashes after upgrade
« on: October 30, 2008, 05:57:09 am »

I just upgraded and purchased 13. MC is crashing pretty much constantly.  Just crashed as I was typing this last sentence, this time it ran for 2 minutes.

What can I do to provide debug info to the MC team?

Reboot, reinstall, reinstall your license.

If that doesn't work, try the thread called "Weird Problems" in my signature below.

Uninstall any third party software.

Turn off auto-import.  It's under tools/options/libraries.

Copy your system info from MC help and post it here.

Turn on MC's logging in Help.  Check the log for "crash".

I've added a modified version of this list to our wiki here:

Ok, I did the full backup/uninstall.... thing. MC 13 ran for a few hours then started crashing after just minutes again. The crash while I was writing this was while running with the defaults offered after a crash (ie, no plugins, default lib...)

Now what? I have the logs, but its too big to include in the postl

The associated for .gif is unchecked. I must say that even checking for that setting was tough as MC13 does not run for more than a few seconds now.

You can turn off auto import if you think it's related.

I create a new, empty, library and see no crashes. So its clearly something to do with my library. Of course if MC13 can't keep from crashing with my library its not much use to me.

When I installed 13 it imported my 12 library. Could that have something to do with the crashes?

Do you still have MC12 installed and does it work without problems with the same library?

Does MC13 crash if you import your media files to a new library (without restoring your old library).

If it crashes during import then MC probably encounters a corrupted or otherwise problematic file that causes the problem. The last few lines of the "previous log" might tell something about the cause.

I uninstalled MC12 when I did the (second) full reinstall of MC13. This last time it crashed it seems due to docking my iphone (see below). I though MC did not support the iphone. The last last time it crashed I left it running over the weekend analyzing the audio of my audio books. No devices were connected that time. When I got back tonight, the crash dialog was waiting to greet me.

At this point I'm thinking about dropping 13 and going back to 12, since 13 seems quite unstable (at least for me).
