Hi,

Has anybody experineced issue that Media Ceneter is causing problem for Vista PC to go in sleep mode?
When I install MC Vista doesn't anymore enter Speel more. I uninstall MC, then my PC sleeps like baby. I put MC back again, no way to get the PC to enter Sleep mode???

I'm using Vista + MC + Sleep Mode and it works and did work everytime for me.

Hmm. You mean I should use the Sleep timer plug in for MC?
But this one will get my PC to show down after pressing the buttom, and counter running out

What I need is to have normal Vista Speel Powersettings to work, and get the PC automaticaly after requered time to sleep mode/ not shut down.

Sorry, my post was a bit confusing. I didn't want you to use the sleep-plugin. I don't have neither a solution for you problem nor a suggestion. I just pastet MCs system info so you can see how my system is configured, because it goes into sleep mode with MC installed and also with MC open.

I just could give you some off my thoughts about this:
Vista will not go in sleep mode, if MC is playing.
Perhaps it also maybe a problem if MC builds thumbnails or is doing some other jobs, but I'm not sure about that. Some time ago I read about some problems with the detailed energy-saving settings concerning the setting "When sharing media".

This shouldn't effect MC, but perhaps it helps to set it to "Allow the computer to sleep"... You can just give it a try!

I had the same problem in Win XP.  Try disabling "Run Auto-Import in the background."  It's under options, Library & Folders in Media Center.  You will have to manually import files after this, but your PC should now sleep (hopefully).

It would be news to us if auto-import changed sleep behavior.  It shouldn't.  Are you able to reproduce this?

I tested both "autoimport" and "thumbnail creation". Changing on/ off these options didn't help me to get the Vista Ultimate PC to sleep. So, I can confirm these doesn't triger the problem.

Also I changed the Power Options: When sharing media - allow the computer to sleep. This didn't help neither.

My computer doesn't go to sleep mode, when MC is installed. As soon as I uninstall it, it sleeps without any trouble...

I don't get it. Could be there is some conflict between MC and HW or some SW/ driver??? I realy don't want to reinstall whole computer, as the instalation is just 4 month old, and everything else runs OK.

Any idea, what else I could try to resolve this issue?

Media Center doesn't run _anything_ if you don't start it, so this doesn't make any sense.  Are you certain there isn't some other system difference?

Matt, you are right! MC doesn't run anything, if it's not started. However, it leaves some impact on Vista, after it's closed...

I did some more testing. I removed the MC from Startup folder, so it doesn't start automaticaly with my log on to Vista.
Now there is follwoing ineteresting sequence:
1. I start and log on Vista w/o MC started, it goes to Sleep w/o any problems
2. I start MC, then Vista doesn't any more enter the Sleep mode
3. I close/ exit MC application (not just minimize it), and also then Vista doesn't any more enter the sleep mode
4. I restart Vista w/o MC started, and it goes to Sleep w/o any problems

So, looks like MC is making some impact on Vista when it's running, which changes the Sleep behavior, and this impact remains in place even MC is closed.

Are you doing anything with Media Center, like watching a movie or changing modes?

We disable the screensaver and power saving in Display View, but restore any changes when returning to Standard View.

Nop. I just start it and leave it on Start screen.
It is enough for my Vista to stop entering in to Sleep mode.

Are your media files on a network drive? My Vista will NEVER sleep if I access my media files located on a shared drive which I have mapped. If I don't access the mapped drive (after a reboot), vista sleeps. The second I access that drive (either thru explorer or MC) Vista stays awake - even after all apps are closed!

I have the same problem with my MC and Vista!

I have mapped 4 folders on my main PC's D: drive for sharing, and put media on them. Even data is on my PC, I access it through mapped Network drives.
Whe MC starts, it connects to these NW drives, and this creates problem of Vista not entering the Sleep mode.

I was changing the System Configuration (msconfig), and diabled Security Accounts Manager. As sharing and mapping of drives doesn't work anymore, my Vista sleeps like baby. Juts the problem is now that you can't run Vista witH SAM disabled, it it does't share and map resources!!!

Interesting enogh, my other Vista media player PC, which is accessing the same media on the same mapped drives of my main PC, doesn't have any problem with sleeping!

So far conlusion: MC is having conflict with Security Accounts Mangaer, when it's accessing shared/ mapped network drives on the same Vista PC. This conflict creates issues of Vista Sleep.

Matt, with this information, you should be able to replicate this problem on your test systems.

Any ideas, how to fix it?

Just for ref I have MC on about 3 vista systems and none of them have problems sleeping.
All my drives are local removable drives however.

Lucky you!
If library server of MC would properly stream video files, I would not have the mess of creating NW shares, and all problems of Vista not sleeping anymore!
Now I have to wait up to 5 minutes or more for the Library server to transfer first the complete video file to another PC, and only then I can view it!!!
I have to have these network drives. I don't believe MC team can't come of with working solution to stream fast and convinient video files from main PC to another PC...

Disabling power saving may be the issue.  I have occasionally run into this issue with MC 12 and so changing and saving the power settings seems to fix it until next time.
