TV Not working - Cannot run preview graph
« on: July 22, 2002, 08:45:02 am »

Hi,

I have just done a reinstallation of Windows 2000, and where as before my TV card was working fine under Media Jukebox 8 (albeit without Stereo sound). Now when I try to use the TV functions it says "Cannot run preview graph", yes even with that incorrect spelling :-)

It must mean that my computer after the clean installation doesn't have something on it that it previously did. Does anyone know what that may be? The TV application that came with the card does work fine.

Which TV tuner card do you have?

Try deleting registry key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Music Exchange\1.0\Media Jukebox\TV Settings

and restart MJ.

I've had the same problem on my WinXP system...
My TV-card is a Hauppauge WinTV PCI card with radio, teletext and remote control.

-------------------------------------------------------
Media Jukebox  8.0.331
Install Path: C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\

CPU: Intel Pentium II 348 MHz MMX
Memory: Total - 261 MB, Free - 99 MB
OS: Microsoft Windows XP  Workstation 5.1  (Build 2600)

Internet Explorer: 6.0.2600.0000
ComCtl32.dll: 6.00.2600.0000
Shlwapi.dll: 6.00.2600.0000
Shell32.dll: 6.00.2600.0000
wnaspi32.dll: N/A
-------------------------------------------------------

When I still used version 8.0.293 I had no problem.
Then I upgraded to version 8.0.314.
I also tried 315 & 318; now I've got 331, but still no luck...

Deleting the registry key mentioned above did not work for me.

B.t.w., the error message window is titled "PlaybackEng". Could it help to replace the new playbackeng.dll with the older one (from version 293)? Or would this mess up things?

2 more things...

1. When the error occurs, where the tv screen should appear, it says
  "Cannot render closed captioning"
2. I just tried upgrading to 8.0.333... still the same problem.

Media Jukebox  8.0.333
Install Path: C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\

CPU: Intel Pentium II 348 MHz MMX
Memory: Total - 261 MB, Free - 102 MB
OS: Microsoft Windows XP  Workstation 5.1  (Build 2600)

Internet Explorer: 6.0.2600.0000
ComCtl32.dll: 6.00.2600.0000
Shlwapi.dll: 6.00.2600.0000
Shell32.dll: 6.00.2600.0000
wnaspi32.dll: N/A

I could not reproduce the error on my system. There are something about Hauppauge driver though. While I had no problem running the program normally, I can not run it in debugger. That makes it harder for me to diagnose the problem.

Have you tried reinstalling the Hauppauge WDM drivers?

Could it help to replace the new playbackeng.dll with the older one (from version 293)?

The error message is relayed from TV control to PlaybackEng. Replacing PlaybackEng would most likely not help. Replacing MJTVControl.DLL with the older is a safer bet. I forgot which version of MJTVControl.DLL went with MJ8.0.293. If you are running MJ8.0.293 now and TV works, try copy MJTVControl.dll from MJ installation folder. After installing MJ8.0.333, you can copy the TV control back. This way you can have all the fixes in the latest MJ build while still can watch TV (if this works). This would also help us pinpoint the problem.

Hi,

I've tried installing 8.0.334. No luck.

I reinstalled 8.0.293 and TV worked just fine. Then I copied MJTVControl.dll and after installing 8.0.334 again I replaced the newer file with the one that came with 293.
Now TV works again, so obviously the some change in MJTVControl.dll between versions 293 and 314 caused the problem.

Is it possible to post files to the forum? I'd include the older .293 version of MJTVControl.dll but I don't know how ;)

BTW, I've still got the installation file for 8.0.293, so if anyone's interested...

I am having the exact same trouble on a winXP box.  I would very much like a copy of the MJTVControl.dll that you mentioned?

if you can mail it to me ded.idio@NOSPAM.ntlworld.com (take the NOSPAM. out of that) or make it available otherwise that would be great!

thanks.
