MC 13 vs MC12 performance
« on: December 27, 2008, 11:31:28 am »

hi.

I'm considering upgrading to MC13 from 12 and would like some information on general speed performance with 13 over 12.  I have over 40k songs and the speed in scrolling, searching and playing in MC12 is satisfactory but wondering if there are major speed improvement to MC 13.  I see lots of threads on new features but nothing specific on speed.

thanks..

I have about 200k items in my library. I found MC13 to be significantly faster than MC12, especially in time to display complex views which are about twice as fast.

Also, a change was made in MC13 to only refresh the displayed tab. With multiple tabs open, this gives the feeling of much better performance.

I am still running 13.0.79 and it is bulletproof.

Based on the comments in the most recent build 13.0.95 I think you are safe to go with the latest.

rjm's advice is sound, but despite that, before installing the latest MC13 build, you should understand that it's still in development. There's no rolling back either as the library version has been incremented. This means that while v13 will restore and upgrade a v12 library, v12 will not be able to restore a v13 library.

Be sure you have a safe backup of your v12 library for use in the (unlikely) event that you wish to roll back to 12.
Also remember that it's safe to have v12 and v13 installed on the same machine, so, getting an initial feel for 13 should be an easy and painless affair. Having v12 and v13 both running at the same time is not recommended.
