cd driver question
« on: July 21, 2002, 06:32:20 am »

I am running MJ 8.0.333 and Windows XP and I have a QPS 40x12x48 (shows to be supported) burner.  When I hit detect in cd writer  settings, MJ shows my burner to say, 'Teac cd-w540e'.  I can burn CD's but MJ shows only to be burning at 24X, even when I use a 32X or 40X cdr disc.  I have already done an uninstall/reinstall.  Any advise?

Did you try changing the setting in MJ/settings/options/cd writer?

Yes, I have tried to reset from that screen.  No good.

So when you click on the speed drop down box, the largest number is 24X?
Do you get the same results whether or not the "use generic driver" is checked? If so, it sounds like the drive is reporting the wrong maximum speed. Can you burn at higher speeds in other applications?

Yes, 24X is the largest selection, no matter what type of cdr I insert.  I get the same result with or without checking the use generic driver button.  I can burn at 40X with my Nero burning software.  Thanks for the help.

I'm stumped. Email me and we can do some further troubleshooting.

Thanks,

John T.

Was this problem ever solved?  I have a Teac W540E and have the exact same problem as gitcheye: the CD burner settings only show a max speed of 24X, while the drive is capable of 40X.

Would like to know what the final outcome was.

Thanks.

The problem was never solved.  I can't figure out why I have a QPS Que! 40X24X48 internal cd burner and it shows up as TEAC and uses windows drivers.  Anybody who can help us?

Well, for what it's worth, here's my config:

Media Jukebox PLUS 8.0.365
Install Path: C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\

CPU: AMD Athlon 1504 MHz MMX
Memory: Total - 523 MB, Free - 329 MB
OS: Microsoft Windows XP  Workstation 5.1  (Build 2600)
CD: Teac W540E  40x12x48
Firmware: v1.0f

Internet Explorer: 6.0.2600.0000
ComCtl32.dll: 6.00.2600.0000
Shlwapi.dll: 6.00.2600.0000
Shell32.dll: 6.00.2600.0000
wnaspi32.dll: Internal ASPI Layer

Being limited to 24X is not a real big deal, but it sure is annoying.  Hopefully someone will get this sorted out.  Thanks.

Are you using 40X media? Some burners check the capability of the media and report that as the maximum speed rather than the drive's actual maximum speed.
When you select 40X in Nero, are you actually getting 40X burn speed with it?

Fodder:
Do you get the same results with the "use generic driver" option checked and unchecked?

Thanks,

John T.,

Checking/unchecking the generic driver box made no difference, still limited to 24X.  I was able to burn at 40X with both CloneCD and Roxio Platinum using Imation and TDK 40X media.  Any other suggestions?  Thanks.
