Windows Media Streams
« on: November 20, 2008, 05:23:31 am »

For some reason despite having a 20MB/s interweb connection I often
struggle to listen to BBC's Radio 1/2 streams at 64kb/s.  Crap ISP I think..
Anyhow if I use BBC's Internet Player that just uses Microsofts WMP web controls
if it can't keep up with the stream the playing just drops out.
With MC listening to the same stream the audio actually slows down instead of droppig out, this souds like a zombies entered the room or something.  Is there anyway to change this?

I always thought BBC Radio streams used RealPlayer  ?

I've saved the RealPlayer streams as Playlists in MC and it's fine for me - different ISP though, of course.

Perhaps try the realplayer stream - here's BBC1

Let me know if it works and I'll post the others I have.

Are these the same as yours? I put them up some time ago but then migrated to asf streams, because, as Mr ChriZ pointed out at the time, if you use the asf streams, then MC can utilise it's display window for things like GForce and 3D visualisations.

The RP ones don't...

The BBC don't take kindly to us connecting to their streams externally, I seem to remember it being in their terms and conditions that if you wanted to listen, you had to use their online player.

of course, I might be massively out of date with that lil' nugget, it's been a while since I was anywhere near their website!

If you search using www.reciva.com it gives you links for both Real and ASF/WMA assuming they exist.
Easilly the best radio search engine I've found.  It should be added to MC's default Web Media IMO.

Found it easer to use. Have put it under Audio --> Web Media
