Shortcut key for Play/Pause for entire OS?

I'm always running MC at work but when someone walks in my office, I have to bring MC to the focus and hit the pause button or Ctrl+P. Is there a way to have a global OS shortcut key to pause MC to make this easier?

A keyboard with multimedia keys is one nice way.

It's a little work, but here is how you can create global shortcuts in Media Center:

Thanks Matt. The custom global shortcut worked great! I knew MC must have some way to do it.
