Feature Request to help us "MC for video" users
« on: February 27, 2009, 12:30:08 am »

MC13 has made great strides in customising file type associations and playback methods. I'd like it to go a step further please.

To play high definition mkv files, there are many options for decoding, including:

CoreAVC
FFDShow
MPC-HC decoder (which can use hardware decoding if your system and the file you're attempting to play support it)

For those files that support it, I'd like to use MPC-HC in hardware mode. For all others I want to use CoreAVC for best results. Unfortunately, whether a file can use hardware mode or not is quite hit and miss, especially since the latest nVidia drivers have opened up a ton more files to this mode that previously were not compatible.
So my feature request is this:

For every file we have, I'd love to have a contextual menu item that excuses it from the normal set of filters associated with that filetype; that way we can customise the filters for that particular file that doesn't hold true for the majority of files using that container. I'm imagining a checkable option like "Don't use filetype's assigned filters", which would then allow you to choose the filters exceptional for that file.

I hope this makes sense and others also see a need for this.

Yep, I asked about this a while ago :)
In my case, I'm not so much worried about the precise decoder, as being able to select the language/ subs combo on a per file basis. I've got large amounts of anime, some of which the dub is better on & some of which the subs are better.

Cheers

Thanks Leezer.

I think it'd be fine to make all files have a default combination of filters, and then choose the ones you want as exceptions. Or, perhaps, to set up various combinations and assign during tagging which combo of filters/subtitle options etc. one would use for playback.
