Why JRiver Codec
« on: March 02, 2009, 10:14:32 am »

Can someone explain why the JRiver Codec is used in television recording?  It intrigues me and I'm just curious.  What are the ramifications when playing the video outside of MC?  Do any other players support the output video?

This is an old topic  :), but here are the short answers:

We include the codec so users of some analog TV tuner devices will have a codec out-of-box.  Computers do not always come with video codecs.

As it comes in the form of DirectShow filter, any media player that uses DirectShow should not have problem with it.

After I asked I noticed for analog TV only.  Old comes to mind.

Thanks for the update.
