Since I Like War Movies (Normaly Older B&W Ones)

When Pearl Harbor Came Out I Waited Untill Now To Buy It Since I Was Waiting For The Director's Cut.

It Is A 4 Disk Set, And The Movie Is Well Worth Watching.

Watched Lagaan over the weekend courtesy of Netflix. It's an Indian movie with subtitles and it's also nearly 4 hours long. This maybe doesn't sound like a great movie but believe me I really enjoyed it.

Good story, good characters! I was bummed when it finally finished. :-)

Gatorbrit:

Lagaan was terrific - caught it on cable. 4  hours on a cricket match, if you can believe it, but Herself and HTH were glued to their seats. Ditto Monsoon Wedding - just a nice movie.

Saw the Fast Runner (Icelandic) and Sunshine State (John Sayles). First one bored me to death, left after about 1/2 hour. Sunshine State OK, no great shakes. Then Road to Perdition - quite good, and Newman and Hanks were outstanding.

Did get Memento on dvd - one of my favorite moveis. Genuinely weird - you can draw the appropriate conclusions.

HTH

HTH>>Lagaan was terrific - caught it on cable. 4 hours on a cricket match, if you can believe it<<

I'm English so I guess I'm predisposed to watching cricket for 4 hours (or 5 days for an international match) but I wanted to avoid the "C-word" in my posting because so many of my friends here in the US go glassy eyed.

(I guess I'm conditioned to Brits playing real a**holes in movies these days. Even that good American bad guy Hannibal Lecter was played by a Welshman - I know he's an American now though.)

I've not seen Monsoon Wedding - I'm waiting for it to come out on Netflix. They don't have a date yet. Thanks for the recommendation.

I saw Road To Perdition and agree about the acting. The kid did a great job too. It all seemed a little "scripted" - like I knew where it was going when the plot got going. The cinematography was breathtaking though. Definitely recommended.

King> Does the Director's Cut of Pearl Harbor on DVD have the movie split between two discs the way the original DVD release did?

I hate that.

Have been watching Remember the Titans and The Replacements as they come around on cable in anticipation of the season that approaches much too fast and not soon enough.

Odd how those movies, which I know to be not all that good, somehow get re-viewed.  And I'm not the re-viewing kind.

It's not a movie, but the show The Wire on HBO is all kinds of xlint.  Does show Mobtown in an unflattering light, but as with other HBO shows the writing, acting, direction are just top notch.  There was a great scene replayed last night where two cops re-cover a crime scene, go through the job of what happened and all the while conversing about it.  The conversation consisted entirely of the word F said with varying speed, tone and inflection.  It was a tour de force.

We just watched Dangerous Beauty on DVD and both my husband and I were totally enthralled with this story about Veronica Franco's life and the plight of Venetian women in the 16th century.  Beautifully photographed, it's sensual and romantic, well acted, and true to the book on which it is based.  Highly recommended.

Here's a great short animated film.  It's about 8 minutes and you won't want to try it on a 56K modem, but if you have cable or DSL, it's hilarious.

It's about a guy who decides to ride his bike about 40 miles to see his girlfriend.

if you dig advanced animation, get some of the films by The Brothers Quay, particularly Street of Crocodiles. Will get way inside your head.
