Install problem
« on: July 18, 2002, 08:30:40 am »

I'm trying to install MJ on a Win2K box.  The problem is simple in its manifestation: I run the installation program, I get the "Media Jukebox 8.0 is preparing the Install Wizard..." dialog, but when the progress bar completes, the setup application exits with nothing further taking place.

No dialogs, no errors, nothing; it just exits.  I've checked the task list (i.e. Task Manager), and the application truly has exited when this happens.  It is not in the background, nor is it hidden behind any other window.

I've tried MJ 8.0.329 and 8.0.331, and the exact same thing happens with both.  I've tried rebooting, and I've tried closing all other third-party applications.  I've tried re-downloading the setup application.

A clue, please?

Do you have Administrator access to your PC (thru your login user id)?  MJ requires it to install.

You may have some files somewhere in a temp folder that are causing problems.  Try IE/Tools/Internet Options/Temporary Internet Files and delete files.

ZRocker--

I think that's the problem, then.  I had thought of that, but I kept thinking "WHY would it matter?"  I guess the Windows Media crap it installs requires it, perhaps?

Thanks for the helpful reply.

(Wishing I could edit previous messages...)

I assume the lack of Administrator privileges is the problem.  I don't have Administrator access to my system, so I guess MJ isn't going on it.

one option that would be nice for a user besides edit, is "delete" in case the user changes his mind and wants to pull the post.

Duh!  I forgot--I AM a member of the Administrators group on the PC in question.  Now I am totally confused as to why MJ setup would exit the way it does.

I tried clearing temp and temporary internet files, to no avail.

I get a very similar problem when installing Media Jukebox 8. I am using W2K and I am administrator on this machine.

Just after the "Setup is preparing Install Wizard" progress bar completed, a generic error message windows pops up stating:
"Errors encountered while performing the operation
Look at the information window for more details"

There is no information window, there are no errors or warning recorded in the Event Viewer.

I was using Media Jukebox 7.2 and I can install and uninstall this version without any problem.

If nobody can help, I just stay with the old version:(

Atanis.

Still having this problem, now with MJ 8.0.333.

- I am logged in with Administrative rights.

- I've "cleaned up" and tried every other trick I know, to no avail.

- I've rebooted.

Setup launches, the progress bar completes after a few seconds, then it simply exits.

Why on earth would this happen?

Never mind; I found a roundabout way to install Media Jukebox.  Works like a champ, without running setup.  I used Ashampoo UnInstaller 2000 to re-create the installation changes.  I just wish I had done it a day sooner; I had to "waste" a key restore on it.

Scodan,
You did get several people trying to help.  If we knew what the problem was, we'd tell you.

I said above that I thought it was a problem with your temp files.  OS related is my guess.

Well, then I guess once again, I have a problem no one else in the world has ever encountered.  Thanks anyway; no hard feelings, I hope.
