IPOD for Windows in August
« on: July 17, 2002, 10:17:07 am »

"Apple Computer Inc. Chairman Steve Jobs ( news - web sites) said on Wednesday Apple will expand the audience for its popular iPod music player with new versions of the device designed to work with Windows-based personal computers.

"Speaking to an audience of Apple loyalists at the bi-annual Macworld  trade show here, Jobs also said it was cutting $100 off the prices of the two existing iPod models that run on Apple computers.

"Apple said it would offer its 1,000-song, five-gigabyte iPod for $299 and a 2,000-song, 10-gigabyte iPod for $399. It also said it would introduce a new $499 model capable of storing 4,000 songs, or roughly 20 billion bytes of data. "

Any planned MJ support?

According to Apple's site they're bundling MusicMatch
http://www.apple.com/ipod/

The iPod has a lot going for it.  Large capacity, small form factor, firewire access, excellent UI... a bit pricey for most folks though.

You can buy one right now at apple.com.  The 20gb is now $499, 10gb $399 and 5gb $299.  The 5gb is older technology and the 10gb and 20gb have been updgraded a little.  I am going to pick up the 20gb version.

The only problem is the software apple is touting for the PC is Musicmatch.  Yuck!  Surely you guys can develop a plug in?  Check it out at apple.com for more info.

Big deal? There are tons of MP3/WMA playing CD Players... There are at least half a dozen hard drive based stand alone MP3 players.

Apple sucks.

There is nothing special about the iPod.

Get over it.
