Surround not set up correctly?

I appreciate all the help here!

I've noticed none of my video files with surround sound show up at my receiver as surround...

When I was using VLC, I needed to change a few settings for this to work.... and now it does work. (in VLC)

I'm using the SPDIF out of my M-Audio Transit.

I love this, I'm getting closer and closer to an all in one MediaCenter.  Now I just gotta buy a couple massive HDs.

I'm not much good at surround sound issues, but if you're using SPDIF, I believe it's up to the receiver to process it or not.  I've seen mine refuse a few times.
