Hi there

Posted this under the topic 'Windows 7 x64 Enhanced Video Renderer Issues'

Just to report i am having the exact same issue under Vista x86 (sp1) + all the updates - Brand spanking new fresh install, latest nvidia drivers, latest vista codec pack (shark's). So it is not x64 specific, it is not windows 7 specific.

This is followed by the error 'Error starting direct3d engine (error creating direct3d device(0x8876086A))

I can confirm it does not occur in wmp, when playing games, has occured in last 2 MC13 builds, is not nvidia driver related, not codec related and not os specific.

I guess it must therefore be a MC13 bug

Please help

This almost sounds like an issue with your graphics hardware.
Do some google searching of the error code: 0x8876086A

You'll see it's a generic message returned from DirectX.
The EVR has made a request for a DirectX object and DirectX/hardware has not been able to comply.

You say you're not having the problem with WMP.  Is WMP definitley using the EVR?

There's an interesting thread here where someone managed to resolve it by finding older drivers rather than newer ones:
