What is the use of “List” formatted tags?
« on: May 31, 2009, 04:43:23 am »

For cataloguing performers I made a new custom tag “Performers” and set this to have the list property (semi colon delimited).  This looks handy for cataloguing opera to have the performers of an act at hand.

However in a list view, “Performers” is displayed as a long  line with the semicolons included. I expect a list view here with the performers listed as a vertical list when I mouse over. Not as a long line.

The way it is implemented now looks not very useful ?

Try adding "Performers" as a pane above the file list.
Does that look\work any better for you?

You mean the mouse pop-up should display like a list. Interesting idea.

Though the list view will still display the field with semi-colons.

Yes, that is unavoidable, it is on one line in the list view. Here is a screen shot about what I mean.

Because the whole text doesn’t fit in the column, the text is truncated. When I move the mouse pointer over that text, a window pops up showing the whole text, but just as it is. It would be more readable and useful if text of tags/fields with the list property are shown then as a vertical list.

The general info window that also pops up can be omitted then IMO. This can be left for non list tags/fields then.

Yes I know, I’ve already read that nice thread ;) you can make it as fancy as you like. But that is far beyond my needs.

Point is I use MC as an audio player in my Hi-Fi set on a mini laptop with a 9’’ - 600 x 1024 screen, so screen space is limited. Music is on a server (NAS). To keep it workable (also for my wife) I have to have the view schemes as simple as possible.
