Is there a way to set a master filter?

Is there a way to set a master filter, like to temporarily exclude all mp3's from showing in all existing views and smartlists?

Have a look at "Access Control" under the "View" menu, it should give you what you want.

Click on the "Advanced" button and the drop menu will be replaced with a standard search control. Enter: -[file type]=mp3

Yes that works!  Thanks!  Now I see that what I was ultimately wanting is slightly different: in a two split-view have one of the two views filtered with that "master filter" (ie, mp3) and the other one with a different "master filter" (ie, wma).  Basically, that would let me quickly view/compare existing tracks that may be in both mp3 and wma formats.  Not a high priority.   Thanks again.
