WD Passport drives
« on: January 30, 2010, 07:23:07 am »

Does anyone run MC off of a Western Digital Passport drive?

I've been running my portable installation off of a MyBook drive for a couple of years now and it's been good,
but the mybook is a pain to move due to the power adapter requirement.

I notice they now do a 1TB passport drive which would fit my collection on, and I could then back up on to my old 1TB mybook.

Ideally I'd like a 2TB Passport, with USB 3.  Technology just moves too slowly  ;)

I use a 500mb WD Passport for my music cache (virtual HH conversion cache).

I know when I bought a WD Passport, they had an option for a special cable to gang together the power output of two USB ports. Maybe that would eliminate the need for the power brick on your model?

It's a 3.5" hd in the mybook, so it's 12v not 5v.

I used to use a 1TB MyBook connected by FW800. I found it too slow, even though it was far faster than USB2. I moved my whole library onto the server's internal RAID5 array and now response is as it should be.
