EDIT: So I found out I was missing something. I see under Handheld Options (when the iPod is plugged in) that I need to check off which "manual" Playlists I want to sync. Smartlists are on by default.

Not sure if I like the control over which Playlists to add or dislike the fact that ALL manual lists are off while Smartlists get synched without having to check anything....

Anyway it's all good now. I can now say that I have completely rid myself of the useless, bloated world of iTunes....
