mp3 vbr encoding quality - MJ v8 vs. v7
« on: July 12, 2002, 07:51:45 am »

hello, I wnoder if anyone has noticed a difference in the overall sound quality between the LAME MP3 VBR encoding, set to normal, in MJ version 7, vs. the comparable MP3 VBR encoding in normal mode in version 8? I immediately thought there was a drop-off after upgrading to version 8, and ended up doing a "side-by-side" comparison, confirming my feeling. Even when the old encoder creates a smaller file size, it still sounded better to me.

Comments, anyone?

Thanks,

Kip

It may be the same commands are not being sent to the encoder (Joint Stereo could be one). also since this is the newer Lame encoder there may have been some encoding changes.

Older verisions of command line Lame can be used, as an external encoder.  It would be nice if the .dll (internal) could be used as well.  I assume that any external encoder can be used (.exe), as long as you knwo what paramters to send to it.
