Searching for a silent Mouse (without click)
« on: July 12, 2009, 01:57:17 pm »

Hi MC community,

does someone know a mouse that has a silent click noise or is soundless?
I'm using MC in workshops and I have to search the next song while the audience is listening to a speaker. And last time I recognized that click, click ... click ... was annoying.

So I went to a big store and tried all the mice there. But the click seems nearly to be the same.

Thanks for your ideas!

Try a Microsoft Wireless Notebook Presenter Mouse 8000.  Ignore the Mouse 8000.  This is the Notebook Presenter Mouse 8000.

Nice small, bluetooth, runs for about 5 weeks on a pair of AAA batteries.

The 'clicks' are tactile and not really audible.

On the bottom of the mouse are buttons for a laser pointer and media center/powerpoint controls.  Very VERY handy as you only need to carry one device instead of a laser pointer and/or remote control.  Or, do as I do and carry two of them 'just in case'.

My noise cancelling headphones use a pair of AAA batteries as does the 'emergency' cell phone charger.  So I carry a flat package of Duracell AAA batts (20 per) which usually powers all my laptop bag goodies for about 9 months.

MSRP for the mouse is $80 but you can commonly find them on ebay (bulk packaging) for $30- or so.  If your machines don't already have Bt mini USB adapters are around $10-.

Thanks for the suggestions!

What a coincidence ... today I saw a colleague with the Microsoft Presenter Mouse. Of course I tried it  ;) And in deed it is very quiet.
The link to the quietmouse seems also to show promise, but living outside the USA, more precisely Germany, it's easier to order in a local shop.

And the hot advice to get a buld packaged mouse from ebay was very good!

Like I said, the ebay bulk prices are good enough that you can afford to buy two.  Saving on shipping is always a good thing.

can't you just use the touch pad on the laptop instead. Noise-free...
