National Parks in the SW US
JimH:
My wife and I just spent most of the last three weeks in the car, touring the Southwest and stopping in a lot of National Parks. It was a terrific trip. I just put the pictures on pix01.com.
Death Valley
6000 miles, 17 days, 8 national parks, 6 Dairy Queen stops, a couple of rotten potatoes, etc.

Hi Mark,
It was at Point Reyes. It's a National Seashore just north of San Francisco. A very wild place.
MrC:
Awesome trip Jim. You were just up the road from us when you were in SF.
I've enjoyed each of the places on your list numerous times. The desert southwest has some of the greatest NP's in the US (in my view). I've been fortunate enough to have taken over a dozen trips there, probably logging ~ 40k miles.
Did you get to see/have you seen Escalante and the grand staircase (esp. driving Scenic Byway 12)? Pre-WWII, there was a movement to make Escalante NP, a grand-daddy including much of southeastern Utah:

I recognize the general area from your photo above, and from the order of your photos, believe I can determine the route you took.
I took a young, always "hot, tired, and hungry" cousin on a road trip to Yosemite, Death Valley, Mono Lake, and Las Vegas. You may recognize some of the sites you just visited.
Thanks for sharing.
JimH:
Thanks, Mike. Looks like your family vacation was a lot like mine! Girls in pools....
