video last position mode?
« on: July 24, 2009, 09:29:14 pm »

hi being i just imported, tagged all my music i noticed when playing Videos tonight... that all the videos i have listened to already and not completelly finished watching have continued where i left off at previously, is there a setting in jriver 13,14 where we can choose to refresh the video position to the beginning after a day, 2 days, 5 days, or remember position forever?... personally when i play my video playlist for party purposes i want them all to start from the beginning not where it was left off... any ideas guys? TY.

Display and sort by Bookmark. Clear the ones you don't want to keep.

Bookmark is the field in which the last position is saved. If you display it in your view, you will be able to select the ones that have values—and clear them.

Welcome to Interact.

Media Center does support bookmarking of audio and video.  The bookmarking behavior is controlled per-file by the field called "Use Bookmarking".  Show this field in any list and edit the values.

The accepted values are:
Default: use bookmark if the file is an Audible file, has its media-sub type set to "Audiobook", is a podcast, or is a video
Yes: always use bookmark
No: never use bookmark

When you stop playback, if you press stop a second time it will clear the bookmark.

In a details view, right-click on a column header and select Bookmark and Use Bookmarking from the list—the same way you would add any column to a view. You can then clear the values in Bookmark, and set Use Bookmarking to "No" if you don't want them set again.

i can upload a screenshot if you and i'm not pulling your leg.. steps i used went to video mode went to columns right click showed bookmark, bookmark showed up i just watched a movie after clearing it, and there is a new bookmark again.  so i went to tag where it says bookmark, click to edit cleared it, then i clicked to edit again and there is not a NO option!?

No. It's been there for some time.

You're not listening. There is no such "option." Use Bookmarking is a FIELD in which you may "tag" your bookmarking preference (i.e., "Default", "Yes" or "No") for each file.

ok i'm trying to listen sorry, and there are 3 other people here looking at jriver as we speak, and we can't figure this out.  so i chose a video, went to action window clicked on tag, the bookmark is empty, i clicked on click to edit, and there is no option at all. i then tried typing anything,  i tried yes, no, default etc.. and the bookmarking tag doesnt allow me to put text in at all. so then friend thought maybe try over on display side. same thing in details view i clicked on bookmarks nothing, then i clicked on right side of bookmarks and a drop down arrow showed up with nothing in it. i tried typing something. it will not allow me to type anything.

If the Bookmark field is empty, the next time you play that file it will start at the beginning.  But after playing it for a while and stop, the bookmark field will be filled with some data, unless you press Stop button a second time.  To stop this behavior, you need to change the "Use Bookmarking" field (instead of the "Bookmark" field).  It has three options - "Default", "Yes", and "No".  Choose "No" to prevent this file from being bookmarked.

LMFAO.... gosh we feel stupid!!!

who's on first? better yet.. Use bookmarking (U) comes WAY After Bookmarking (B) and right before V.

Figured it out ;)

Thanks and sorry for the run around. Geesh!

There's the rub. When "looking for what we expect to find" works, it makes us seem smart. When it doesn't...

I find it's nowhere near as useful as being able to remind myself, "I know nothing." ;)

You can change the display name of Use Bookmarking to something like "Bookmark Flag" (in Options - Manage Library Fields).

all,
correct me if i'm wrong, but still this setting is per file (using tags) and there's no way to change globally the default behavior of saving\using the last position for video files, right?
