Perputually Confused about web mp3 file and m3u and MC
« on: July 26, 2009, 03:50:33 am »

I am using MC 14.034, although I think my confusion about this goes back to MC13.
Please help guide me on how to properly use the library with audio files that is on my private web site.
Please feel free to give any suggestions. I will be sharing these with others that  would use various audio players.
Sometimes I have a M3U called from a web page that I create.

I move audio files to my web site many times.
  • Sometimes I create a M3U file, as a playlist to stream the MP3s from my web site
  • Sometimes I create a web site that will call a M3U file, and it stays on my web site, while being listened to.
  • I would like to be able for MC14 to get my web based audio into its library, so they can be tagged correctly, not show HTTP Stream, as the song name.
It would be extra cool, if I could use the export feature to have MC14 to create a M3U for me, with the audio on my web site.

Thanks in advance.

Media Center can import and export playlists.  The tools are in the File menu.

You'll just need to switch the filenames from C:\... to http://myserver... with a text editor.

View the playlist you want to export.

Then pick File > Export playlist...

Sorry Matt for my thickheaded.  ?

Is this about how to create a M3U playlist ??
That is good, as long as the MP3 audio is selected from my PC.

I really want to know how to integrate web based MP3 files into MC14, have M3U have the TAGS recognized, then if I do make a M3U playlist, to have something other than http stream displayed as the song name.

I would also like it if MC14, I could go to my website, have select the MP3 audio files or directory, and have the MP3 audio integrated into the library. Then have correct Tags entered and then create a playlist, then, if I want to , export that playlist with the Web address included, then play the playlist on MC14 and see the correct Tag information.

In a way, have MC14 treat my web files, as it would my hard drive files, except that they would stream them.

I just read something about Firefox 3.51, which is pretty darn amazing, that makes the code, incredibly easy to access multi-media audio and video and have it streamed.

I really like having MC14 as the library and player for my multimedia. As time goes on, I like putting more and more on my web site.

Thanks,

Jon

I think that I get from this string is that:

  • I probably have not communicated well.
  • The MC14 is a tool that is oriented around media files that are found on local PC disk drives,
     or on local network drives
    .
  • Most important for me is that for media files, playlists, etc that are on private web sites, MC14 is not the primary tool to use.
  • Then again, I could be wrong.  :D

I would like it to be understood that my comments are not meant to be critical of the MC team OR how great MC14 is now
and how awesome the other versions of MC have always been !!. One of the great things about MC is the commitment to go the way the customers want
it to go.  :)

However, I would appreciate any suggestions anyone has if they have a focus on storing, playing, streaming,
media files from private web sites (and Intranets).

Thanks, Jon.
