books from audible.com not downloading.
« on: August 18, 2009, 10:14:07 pm »

I am trying to get the Audible plugin to download my content and it's not doing well at the moment any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have installed the latest stable mc14 and have a few day's ago removed mc13 from my system.

when I click the download link  a dialog box pop's up with the following

Do you want to open or save this file?

Name: aw_dhelper.mc13mime
Type: Application
From: cdl.audible.com

Now i have the option to either save or open the file. If I save the file I get a file named aw_dhelper.mc13mime in my download directory.
If I choose to open it nothing happens, no error's no dialog boxes of any kind. and MC seems to be running fine but no audible content is being downloaded.

again thank you in advance for your help.

Update

I have found that If i download the file and rename the extension from mc13mime to mc14mime once that is done I open the file and MC start's to download the audible content.

How can I change the association from mc13mime to mc14mime ? any thought's ?
is there a standalone mc13 uninstaller/cleaner ?

I'm wondering if UAC is preventing the program from associating with the download MIME type at run time.

You could edit this registry location with regedit:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\DataBase\Content Type\application/aa-dhelper

Set 'Extension' to .mc14mime

Let us know if this makes a difference, and then we'll figure out how to make the process easier in future builds.

Thanks.

I didn't try an audible download yet, but I was following this thread and I thought it might help to mention that I checked that registry entry on my system and it already IS set to .mc14mime without editing it.  It just struck me as strange that 666JackTheKnife666's system needed to have it manually changed but mine didn't.

The deal is that we try to associate with that MIME type while you use the Audible store inside the player, but then restore it (to the Audible Manager or whatever) when you close.

UAC makes this impossible without prompting for elevation, so we'll have to rethink the approach.

That explains it -- I'm using XP and I assume that Jack is using Vista, which means that I wouldn't be effected by this.

Thanks,
