Album Artist Auto - Reanalyze
« on: September 14, 2009, 11:24:32 am »

Is it possible to make MC14 Reanalyze the artists in the album, and try to fill in Album Artist field properly again?

MC13 made so many mistakes, filling the album artist field with something totally irrelevant for my CUE imported songs.  Can i make MC retry at guessing the Album Artist?

Media Center doesn't fill in the 'Album Artist' field.

The 'Album Artist (auto)' field will show 'Multiple Artists' in cases where the program thinks it's a mix album.  The exact rules are in the wiki:

thanks for the quick reply, I'm starting to wonder if there is a bug with Album Artist (Auto) in MC13 (which probably is same in 14).

when I import CUE files, MC13 fills the Album Artist with bogus information:
For the example:  Given the CUE file below, the Album Artist of the first 5 songs are filled in as John Williams, and the 6th song is José Serebrier.

I have tried removing the album from the library and subsequently importing it back in by drag and drop. I have NO idea why MC13 is making these erroneous assumptions.

Please Check out this CUE file:

Could you email the CUE file to matt at jriver dot com?  I'll give it a shot here.

Thanks!

Thanks for the file.

When I import it, the 'Album Artist' field is empty, just like I'd expect.

Any other tips?

email sent.

I did another experiment.  Using my laptop with MC installed, again, deleted the The Musings Of Miles - DCC album from the library.

Then I imported it by drag and drop from a central share directory "Y:\music\Miles Davis - 1955 The Musing Of Miles[DCC 24 Gold GZS-1106]" (same Y:\ mapping on my HTPC).

Once imported I checked the tag for Album Artist.

I found here, it was filled with Janos Starker.

MC seems to have a mind of its own. ;D

I think I know why you aren't having any problems.

This problem doesn't occur in an empty library.  I deleted the library on my laptop, and reimpported just The Musings Of Miles - DCC, this time, it worked as expected.

As a test, try with a fresh library.  If you delete an entry, it can be cached for deleted-file tracking.

yes, while the cache may be storing the details of deleted songs, this still doesn't explain why it was named improperly in the first place.

now it's easy to see why I want a way to get MC to reapply the Album Artist rules on the albums again since many albums are simply wrong.

Perhaps it was an older version of MC that filled in the wrong Album Artist (auto) fields, but deleting the whole library at this point is just nonviable after so much work has already been put into it.

The solution found to induce a reanalyzation for Album Artist (Auto) was simply to erase the batch erase the fields from the Album Artist (Auto) field from the albums with the incorrect Album Artist (Auto) information.
