Question:

How to use my "sidecar" mymovies.xml files generated for use with Media Browser under WMC7?

A way to read or import (maybe even export) those in MC14 would be great.

I understand the need for a sidecar file exclusive for each file in many cases, but I dont see why MC14 not should be able to read those xml files generated by or for use with WMC7 for tv and movies.
If MC14 cant find a proprietary MC14 xml file it should look for an read the "standard" mymovies.xml file in each folder.

Great work is being done on the MoviesSeriesInfos Automation for J.river plugin, but its still very early in development. And there are several mature and at least semi automatic metadata harvesters out there ready to be used by starving MC14 users...

Yes, I can probably install MyMovies add metadata there and then import to MC14. But I was hoping to avoid using even more programs to perform a simple task MC14 should be fully capable of...

I have set up a semi automatic folder renaming (filmtitle (year)), creating of xml files and adding metadata. I use that for WMC7 and my xBox360.

If MC14 was tweaked to read those same xml files I would be in HTPC heaven with the best of both worlds. I could then just set MC14 to watch those same folders and actually start using theater view. At the moment there is no point even if i have a well organized movie library with lots of metadata MC14 is fully capable of reading, but still not able to.

Fine, but where does your metadata come from? ?

95% from themoviedb.org and imdb.com, and some hard to find covers from various other sites. I use a cocktail of YAMMM and Media Center Master to do basic tagging and renaming. Meta Browser and Salami`s movie organizer to fill the holes manually.

Doesnt really matter, the point is that I have the metadata organized in easy to read xml files, I just want to use it in MC14.

OIC. If you were to use MyMovies or PVD to collect meta data, you would be using one program instead of a "cocktail." And from the trouble your going through to get your meta data, you must know it's not "a simple task MC14 should be fully capable of."

Like I said I already have a way to collect metadata, so im not asking for MC14 to do that. Its fully automatic for popular titles but I have to run some rare and old movies through some manual steps. It is IMHO a setup far superior to the programs you sugested rick.ca. And you basically quoted me out of context there.

As you are probably aware, that's something in active development. I don't follow that too closely, but I assume using sidecar files requires some degree of standardization. Your XML file will probably have to be in the MyMovies XML format, whatever that means.

Hehe, different strokes for different folks I guess (Havent tested the new mymovies3 builds yet) There have been big progress in this area (organizing and adding metadata to movies and series) over at the green button forums. And MC14 should/could use this data if it was able to read those "standard" xml files. I have tested some movies with no luck, and MC14 crashes if I try to import the whole collection.

It will import data contained in MyMovies xml file, named in the following ways:

mymovies.xml or [filename].mymovies.xml

Current version, build 61, will do the same if you rename the MyMovies file to [filename]_[ext]_JRSidecar.xml
