Earthlink Launches New Music Program

The story can be found at http://digitalmass.boston.com/news/2002/07/08/earthlink.html

In conjunction with FullAudio, Earthlink is offering 50 mp3 downoads per month for $9.95 and 100 per month for $17.95. No mention of bitrate, portability or other technical aspects. FullAudio claims to have contracts with 4 out of the 5 major companies, total of 75,000 files available. Apparently partnering with MusicMatch to offer the program to users bundled with a customized version of the jukebox. Not a terrific bargain, and not a bargain at all if the files are locked inside the computer.

Quite frustrating to see an inferior jukebox program getting a prominent platform. (xxxxxxxxxx...Sound of teeth gnashing.) The same thing is true in the WSJ (Mossberg) and PC World, where the editors routinely refer to MM or RJ whenever making a point about jukeboxes.

Earthlink site says burning CDs and moving tracks to portable devices are "coming soon."
Its player is "powered by Musicmatch"...
Not ready for prime time.
