Streaming media - again....
« on: October 01, 2009, 09:44:32 am »

So, Real Radio Scotland moved their stream url after many years, and I'm not having much joy digging the new one up.

It's kind of frustrating because the URL I have found, namely : h**p://wm-media.gmgradio.com/resc/f255624c791c4768a036c005656c89434dac21fc/11677

Plays just fine when entered into WMP. What happens is, it plays a short sponsor message, then kicks off the radio stream.
When I put that URL into MC, it plays the short sponsor message, then stops!!

I popped the url into a d'load manager, hoping to get my hands on the physical .asf file, which should contain the direct url, but all I get is a reference file with the line:

h**p://wm-media.gmgradio.com/resc/f255624c791c4768a036c005656c89434dac21fc/11677?MSWMExt=.asf

plus another with the ip address instead of the domain.

So, any wizards out there got any tips?
(or could MC please handle these stream addresses as gracefully as WMP does?)

-marko.

So, that's me, given up. I honestly see this as an MC bug atm.

WMP can play the thing just fine. I exported it as a .wpl playlist, and MC14 imported that just fine, but still can't get past the opening advert...

Code: [Select]
<?wpl version="1.0"?>
<smil>
    <head>
        <meta name="Generator" content="Microsoft Windows Media Player -- 12.0.7600.16385"/>
        <meta name="ItemCount" content="1"/>
        <title>Playlist2</title>
    </head>
    <body>
        <seq>
            <media src="http://wm-media.gmgradio.com/resc/f255624c791c4768a036c005656c89434dac21fc/20749"/>
        </seq>
    </body>
</smil>

MC's streaming support has always been very iffy (or at least has seemed that way to me).  I can't even get it to receive a very basic stream that I'm running myself on my own LAN, using Quicktime Broadcaster (simple RTSP MPEG-4 stream).

If I ever want to receive a stream, I use WiMP or VLC (but that's about all I use them for).
