Ripped tracks are not tagged correctly?
« on: December 14, 2009, 09:56:55 am »

OK - I'm confused.  Here's the issue:

- I insert a CD, fill in the Artist, Album, and track info (since lookup failed) and rip the tracks to FLAC.
- Open the tracks in another program (foobar2000, for example) and the Artist and Album fields are blank.  Genre, Year, Track and song name are tagged correctly.  Properties also show MC 14.0.106.
- Try forcing "Update Tags (From Library)" and re-importing in foobar2000.  No good.
- Try importing to MediaMonkey... Artist shows up, but no album.
- Try importing to Play on my Mac.  Neither artist or album.
- Try removing from MC library, re-importing... both artist and album are there.
- Also, my naming scheme was set to [Artist]\[Album]\[Artist] - [Name]... and that directory structure was created correctly.

Then I tried ripping the first track to FLAC in EAC... adding EAC to the track title to keep things straight.
- All of my tags show up in foobar2000
- All of my tags show up in MediaMonkey
- All of my tags show up in MC

Then I repeated the test ripping to MP3 with MC:
- Import to Foobar: Crap.  Artist and Album are missing;
- Import to Media Monkey: Crap.  Same as with the FLAC file... Artist is there, Album is missing
- remove and re-import to MC: everything looks good; all info is there.
- Import to (gasp!) WMP11, Both Artist and Album are missing.  Artwork, Year, Genre, Track No. and Name are OK.
- Import to (gasp!) iTunes 9...  same as WMP11.

So... what's the deal?  Any ideas?

Just tested with 111 and tags are showing in all the players I have. (wmp, MusicBrainz Picard & MusicIP Mixer)

Very strange.  I will try upgrading to 111.  Did you try with newly-ripped tracks?

OK... I'm still getting this problem.  If you're not then I guess I have something set up wrong, but I can't figure out what.  Here's a synopsis of my latest test:

- MP3 track has Artist, Album, Track No and Name in MC
- Choose "Update Tags (From Library)"
- Drag track into Foobar 2000: Track No. and Name are properly read, Artist and Album are not
- Drag track into iTunes... same as foobar
- Drag track into Media Monkey: Track No., Name, and Artist are properly read, Album is not

Now, Try the other way:
- Modify Artist and Album in any of the other programs, then choose "Update Library (From Tags)" and MC imports the tags.

...any idea what could be going on?  This sure is a pain...

And another test... rip the same track in Media Monkey and it imports to MC, foobar, and iTunes with all of the tagged information.

I'm stumped.
