Where's WASAPI gone?
« on: January 23, 2010, 11:25:41 am »

Hi all,

Newbee here.

Been using JR for a month or two now primarily for high quality uncompressed 'bit perfect' audio output to a firewire DAC. This has been via ASIO or WASAPI, and generally the latter, for whatever reason gives the best results SQ wise.

However, after being informed that JR wouldn't work until I performed an upgrade, I proceeded to download/intall said update.

According to 'Help-->System Info...' I've upgraded to Media Center 14.0.130.

The problem being that WASAPI output option has completely dissappeared from the audio output options.

However, in plug in manager 'Tools--> Plug In Manager--> Output..' WASAPI shows up as an installed plug in.

I'd be extremely greatful if someone could tell me how to get WASAPI output back.

Thanks.

What operating system are you using?

We recently disabled WASAPI for XP since we didn't think it was available there, and this fact was causing some confusion with users.

Is it available on XP in some cases?

Ahhh, that'll be it then Matt.

I'm using XP c/w service pack 2....

...however, WASAPI has always worked great and to these ears sounds better than ASIO. I've been sending the signal to a Weiss Dac 2 firewire equipped DAC which can handle WASAPI or ASIO.

Is there a way I can re-instate WASAPI playback.

Thanks, Jon

Sorry about that.

We'll figure this out in a coming build so that WASAPI appears on XP systems that support it.

Wasapi on XP will be coming back in an upcoming build.  Please keep an eye on the history and report back how it's working for you.

Thanks,
John

This is what is so wonderful about JRiver Media Center; it is like having a custom built car that
comes with a highly skilled mechanic who fusses and fine tunes it every day.  Just wonderful!
