Multiple Line-in selection
« on: July 01, 2002, 12:18:34 pm »

I have a Creative Live! Drive which puts a second line-in and mic input on the front of my pc. I am running MJ8 which is not "seeing" the line-in that resides on the Live! Drive. Other programs use this line-in with no problem, so I know that it works. Is there anything I can do to access this second line-in?

It may be called something other than line in.  Try selecting mixer.

No dice. I can record with no problem if I dig behind the cpu and plug directly into the sound card's line-in. It would just be nice to record through the inputs on the front of my pc using the Live Drive like I can with other programs.

To keep the sound recorder simple for the user, it's restricted to recording from "line-in", "microphone", "cd audio", and "mixer". Therefore, you can't directly select the second line-in on your Creative sound card. You can do a somewhat clumsy workaround by selecting the "mixer" source and then going into the windows mixer panel and manually selecting any recording source you want to use (and set the volume). See "Line-in recording tips" under Help on this page if you don't know how to get to the windows mixer recording sources.
It sounds like a good idea for the next version of MJ to have an "Advanced" button that lets you select any available recording source for a particular sound device.
