Feature Req: Win 7 Jump List
« on: September 18, 2009, 04:28:34 pm »

Is there any consideration being given to adding jump lists to MC in the Win 7 environment? It would be really useful. I see a lot of the freeware players are getting it (foobar, Winamp) as well as iTunes and Win Media Player.

Lifehacker just did a good article on them. They also show Foobar's jumplist in action.

It took me a couple of weeks to get used to the Windows 7 task bar - jump lists and preview. I'm starting to see why it's so powerful. It will be nice to have a jump list for MC. At the moment, the workaround is to minimize MC to the system tray and make the icon always visible - a right-click gives play controls, a left-click restores the program. If MC is also pinned to the task bar, then it can also always be brought to the front with a single click, whether it's running or not. Nice!

It's very convenient to see progress of converting files/burning/any other long operations in taskbar.
Beginning of retail Win7 sales is not far away so I think MC should be fully prepared.

Would love to see this implemented kinda how Windows Media Player 12 has it in Windows 7. I was actually gonna post a request for this, but OP beat me to it.

14.0.144 (02/12/2010)
1. NEW: Added support for Windows 7 taskbar buttons. Hover over MC on the taskbar to see playback control buttons on the application thumbnail.

Cool 8) Thanks for this!

I guess we can expect more taskbar features for the future?! A usefull one would be the playing files title displayed on taskbar hovering...

Anyway: I'm VERY happy with this first usefull addition!!

As long as you're thinking about it...

In addition to stop/pause/next/etc... controls, displaying the album art and artist/title would be pretty cool.

With the latest build, I get the jump controls when I first start.

But then if I close the program (with Media Server running) and reopen it, they're gone.

I was thinking of how an integration of Win7 JumpLists could make sense within MC. Recently/most used files wouldn't make much sense for MC so jumplist may be not so usefull for MC if this is the only way you can use it.

I don't now whats possible in this area, but maybe it could be usefull to see a part of Playing Now in the jumplist. The now playing song with the previous ~3 songs and the next ~3 songs. Additionally there could be a direct link to Playing Now and the different views (Display View, Theater View, Standard View) in the JumpList.

Just my two cents...
